Vernon Davis has not had his best season by any statistical measure that’s out there. For fans that follow the 49ers closely, his value to the team would seem to be at an all time high. He is hands downs the best blocking tight end in all of football and demands double coverage on almost every play he runs a route. This has allowed players like Michael Crabtree and Delanie Walker to have career highs in catches and touchdowns. That being said, the 49ers will need to force the issue and force feed the ball to Davis, if they would like to play again this season after their Saturday night game.
The Playoffs are when superstars become superstars, and after last year’s playoffs, Davis needs to rejoin that level. If Davis does not see a lot of passes his way, I would have to think it’s by design and not poor performance.
